[News] 1,500 schools destroyed by terrorists in North-East—WARDC

BAUCHI—No fewer than 1,500 schools in the North-East region of the country were destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents, denying over 400,000 children, especially girls, access to education.

Founding Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, WARDC, Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, disclosed this yesterday at a town hall meeting on promoting security and safety of schools in Bauchi State.

Afolabi said WARDC, with support from the United Nations Democracy, UNDEF, and in partnership with Forward in Action for Education, Poverty and Malnutrition, FACEPAM, was addressing a magnitude of factors and issues that affect the safety of students and teachers in the region.

She claimed that the voices of the communities and school users had not been heard, saying WARDC was working to address the challenge of safety and security in schools in Bauchi, Borno and Kaduna states and the Federal Capital Territory.
